Intrinsic Definition Chemistry - Understanding the Experience of BirthThe term intrinsic definition refers to a person's sense of how he or she feels about something, whether it is a person a job, an idea, a food item, or a sport. In the scientific community, the term is used to describe an experience that takes place without outside influence. The common example is that of a child who has an experience with a particular word, yet does not learn to spell that word.In the case of x-rays, for example, an x-ray is seen as the image of x-rays. An x-ray scanner is used to take images of the human body that have been specifically designed to give a true reflection of x-rays. Once this process is done, it can be used to give an accurate, but simplified representation of the inner workings of the human body.An intrinsic definition in the context of science is the idea that such an experience can only be experienced by one who is intrinsically different from the environment. In other words, i t is a cognitively defined experience; it is about feeling like something or someone other than oneself. The important word here is different, because the person experiencing it will have a different mental state, at least to the point where the intrinsic definition would become misleading.Many experiences in life, such as losing a loved one, are unique and may lead a person on a particular path. In a similar vein, the intrinsic definition of a particular experience would be a person's experiences. This includes that of learning a new skill, gaining wealth, becoming successful, becoming powerful, and achieving a goal, among others.There are several ways to define the way a person feels about something, whether it is a person with a food item, or a sport. One might look at it as the feelings an individual has when he or she looks at a flower or picture of someone special. Another example of an intrinsic definition would be the person who wants to know why there is light at the end of the tunnel, or the individual who wishes to know if that particular piece of ice cream really tastes like something they had once consumed.When a person achieves the intrinsic definition of an experience, he or she experiences a feeling that is not usually felt or experienced by anyone else. For example, during a specific ritual, such as a baptism, a person could feel such a connection to that particular moment in time that he or she would not want to ever go through a normal physical death again. It is at these moments that a true attachment to an experience is established. The experiential definition of such an experience is only realized once the person has accepted and integrated into the full spectrum of the human experience.The person who achieves the intrinsic definition of an experience must do the same for anyone. They need to accept, understand, and integrate their experiences, while also recognizing that those experiences are unique and therefore, have their own set of i ntrinsic definitions.

Key GMAT Sentence Correction Concepts Subject-Verb Agreement GMAT MBA Admissions Blog Sentence Correction is the only part of the GMAT Verbal section where you can truly acquire new skills and knowledge to improve your score. Critical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension are more a matter of the long term investment you’ve made in reading and writing critically throughout your life, supplemented by the amount of near term practice and “developed intuition” you build as you study for the GMAT and refine your skills to apply them to this particular test. In other words, on these sections, there are fewer “magic bullets” that, once placed into your pistol, will quickly improve your GMAT verbal score. Luckily, the sentence correction section offers more opportunities to relatively quickly improve your GMAT verbal score. Careful and deliberate study will pay dividends. Sentence Correction questions look like this: The Glass House Mountains in Queensland, Australia, were sighted in 1770 by the English navigator Captain James Cook, by whom they were named supposedly because its sheer wet rocks glistened like glass. (A) by whom they were named supposedly because its (B) by whom they were named supposedly and their (C) naming them supposedly since their (D) who so named them supposedly because their (E) who so named it since supposedly their The five choices represent ways the underlined portion of the sentence may be rewritten. Choice (A) represents the sentence as is â€" i.e. no change is needed. Your job is to Select the answer that produces the most effective sentence; your answer should make the sentence clear, exact, and free of grammatical error. It should also minimize awkwardness, ambiguity, and redundancy. In essence, you should be concerned with three things: Grammar, Meaning, and Style. Grammar trumps every other consideration, though it is often very much tied to meaning. Style is the last thing to look at, but it can be the focus of the question. Let’s breeze through some of the major grammatical concepts you need to master with a brief look at what the GMAT considers good style in the context of effective business writing. Subject-Verb Agreement Our first major concept is subject-verb agreement. As the name implies, a sentence is written incorrectly if the verb used does not “agree” with the subject. However, it is sometimes not clear what or who the subject of the sentence is, and therefore what form of the verb one should use. For the most part this concept will come naturally if you are a native speaker of English. Native speakers acquire these skills along with the rest of their language effortlessly. You probably never thought about the conjugation of verbs until you started to learn another language. You say “I drive” instead of “I drives” without really knowing why. One is just obviously correct while the other is obviously not. But, even if you are a native speaker, the GMAT is a nefarious character who will do its best to trip you up in the following ways: 1) It may muddy the waters with a prepositional phrase, a subordinate clause, or some sort of modifier. Prepositional Phrase: At the zoo the snakes are kept in glass cases. i. “Snakes” is the subject, not “zoo.” SKIP THE INTRO Subordinate Clause: The little league baseball diamonds, which are on the south side of the park, are also used for the adult slow-pitch softball league. i. Subordinate clauses are not complete sentences. They often begin with “who” or “which” and are surrounded by commas when they appear in the middle of a sentence. In the example, “baseball diamonds” is the subject, not “park,” so the verb must be plural. CUT THE FAT 2) Collective nouns are nouns that represent a group containing more than one thing but which are nevertheless singular. For example: The army is moving south The orchestra was disbanded Other examples: class, school, citrus, baggage, crowd, committee… 3) SANAM pronouns (some, any, none, all, more(most)) are singular unless the context dictates a plural verb. 4) Each and Every are both singular pronouns. 5) Either X or Y followed by a verb: The noun (in this case Y) closest to the verb controls the number of the verb. Some are certified teachers and some are just individuals looking for a new adventure. Some have classroom experience teaching subject-specific material and some have never stepped foot in a classroom. Across this spectrum of potential ESL teachers, we always say the same thing: a TEFL certificate can make a huge difference. Teach Away Telegram - January 2013 We hope all of our teachers have had a great start to 2013!In this month’s issue, we’ll address strategies for dealing with difficult students, as well as a list of essentials for your carry-on suitcase when moving overseas. Finally, our country spotlight for January is Saudi Arabia.Strategies for Dealing with Difficult StudentsEvery teacher knows the frustration of dealing with a tough student. Some kids act out because they have a difficult time learning, others might have outside emotional issues, and still others just have trouble sitting still! How you handle such students, however, can make a big difference in how you are able to manage your entire class.When faced with teaching a student who is often in trouble, try the following techniques in order to reach her and better control your classroom.1. Find out some of her interests â€"Does your trouble student love comic books? Soccer? Does she have a younger sibling she loves (or one who drives her crazy)? Find out something that’s important to her, especially if it’s something you might have in common.2. Talk to your fellow teachers â€" Do you have a colleague who has had success with this student? Ask him how he’s been able to reach the student. He might have some valuable insight into techniques you haven’t considered.3. Try peer help â€" If your student is strong in one subject, ask her to tutor a classmate who is struggling. Helping someone can be one of the best ways for a child to increase her self-esteem and take an interest in a subject.4. Stay close â€" When possible, stay in close proximity to your difficult student. Put her near the front of the class or spend a little extra time near her during group activities. It won’t address the root of the problem, but sometimes it’s enough just to keep an eye on things.5. Choose your battles â€" This isn’t to say that you should hold a problem student to a different standard than others. But at times it’s worth letting go of the littl e things in favor of working to resolve a larger behavior problem.6. Put yourself in her place â€" It can be hard, but ask yourself why this student is acting out. Does she feel inferior to her overachieving older brother? Is her family life difficult? At best, you might be able to understand an issue that’s bothering her. And at the very least, just reminding yourself to remain empathetic can help you keep your patience when it’s running thin!Traveling Abroad: What to Pack in a Carry-OnStarting a new job halfway around the world is already stressful. The last thing you want when you arrive is to find out that your luggage has been lost and you don’t know where to get anything. These days, there’s no reason to stuff a carry-on with entertainment options: most airlines show movies on international flights, and many travelers can use a single device for movies, music, and e-reading. Teachers in Saudi Arabia earn a lucrative, tax-free salary, and are generally provided accommodation and airfare in addition to their salary. Educators therefore find that they can usually save a lot during their employment. Expatriate communities thrive in S audi Arabia, ensuring that those living abroad can find a support network and familiar amenities.Saudi Arabia’s modern state is rooted in a rich and significant history. Known as the birthplace of the Islamic religion, Saudi Arabia contains the two holiest places in Islam: Mecca and Medina. Modern Saudi Arabia has undergone rapid development since the discovery of oil, which makes up70% of the country’s government revenue. Thanks to the oil industry, Saudi Arabia has grown into one of the richest countries in the world.The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is perhaps best known in the West for its enforcement of strict societal rules. Islam governs daily life, and expats must understand and accept the country’s laws and customs if they expect to reside in Saudi Arabia. For culturally sensitive teachers, however, the cultural immersion of Saudi Arabia can be very rewarding. Friendly hospitality, family life, and close-knit relationships form the core of Saudi Arabian interactions. Politics and Chemistry Between Man and WomanPope Francis is the new pope and it's important to remember that we all know him as the man who surprised the world with his interviews when he was elected. He doesn't come into power with any baggage, and this should be celebrated.Chemistry between man and woman is another topic that has made news because of this presidential election. Not many people really believe that it will make a difference, but if you look at the evolution of this country, it shows the path where man and woman and the male and female have been treading. There's no longer any doubt that the love for each other is one of the strong undercurrents in American history.These two hot topics are getting very close to each other and so I will put my views on them here. I think both these topics are interesting, but they shouldn't be considered at the same time.Chemistry between man and woman is a very long time coming. Many people were skeptical of the idea, but if you look at the general development of this country, you can see that it has come a long way. The average male and female are still having trouble with finding romance in their lives, but we can see the early signs of progress being made.This is a very sensitive subject that many people are unwilling to discuss, and there are probably many people who are saying, 'Well, we're not ready for this. It's just too soon.' You'll have to ask those people, and let them tell you what they think.Chemistry between man and woman does make a difference, but it's just as important to discuss the concept of equality, and the need for more women in leadership roles, and for more men to step up and take responsibility. That's a good way to start the discussion.His biographer writes, 'Francis is the most promising candidate for the role of the Jesus of love, like to be married and need children, like to learn and grow.' If we take these facts as well as the description given by the biographer, it's very easy t o see how this pope will help inspire some progress in our society.
